A good car maintenance and performance tuning program is necessary to keep any car in good condition irrespective of the weather. However, drastic changes in weather conditions can take a toll on your car and require that you pay close attention to some aspects of maintenance. Good maintenance can save you lots of money in auto repair.

In The Summer

Coolant

Check the coolant, add if needed. Maintain it at the level between maximum and minimum. The cooler compartment is located under the hood. Check for leakage in the hose leading to the engine.

The AC

A working AC is vital in summer. Check to ensure that your AC is cooling properly. If it's not, then there could be a leak in the system. If so, call your auto repair technician.

Tires

Tires expand more in summer because of rising temperatures. Inflate at normal temperature. Use the recommended pressure for the car. The right pressure is indicated on the manufacturer's manual, in the glove compartment or on the driver's door jamb.

Sun protection

Overexposure to UV rays from the sun can cause the body of your car to fade. Whenever possible, park your car in the shade. Also, invest in a good dashboard shade to protect your car interior. Wax your vehicle using polish with UV protection to protect the body from fading

In The Fall

Wiper Blades

It is important to make sure all your wiper blades are in top condition in the strong likelihood of rain. If need be, replace them. Change them at least once a year.

Tires & Brakes

Ensure your tires are not worn and that the tread is good. You will need a good grip in case you have to brake in wet weather. The brakes are equally important. If the braking system is not firm, you may need to have it fixed by a mechanic.

Heater

Check to ensure your heater is working properly. If not working, have it repaired. Otherwise, it could get foggy inside the car, without heating, the windscreen gets clouded and visibility is impaired

Lights

Make sure your lights are in good working order in anticipation of darker longer nights.

Every season presents special challenges for your car. In summer, make sure your cooling systems are in top shape while in fall, the heating and braking systems are a priority. Above all, have a regular maintenance schedule throughout the year. Performance tuning isn't superfluous because it reduces the strain each mile puts on your vehicle.
