When you own a car you want to make sure you know how to properly care for it under any type of conditions. If you are used to living in an area with mild weather then you may not know just how extreme hot weather and extreme cold weather can affect your car. If you happen to relocate to one of these types of regions then your car will be at risk if you don't make sure to quickly learn these things.

Extreme weather can cause fluids to go faster or freeze

Extreme heat can cause your fluids to go faster. If you don't keep a close eye on them then there is a lot of different ways that you can severely mess up your car. Some fluids will go faster, such as the water, but all of them need to be checked more during the heat and often will need more to be added. As long as you drive your car regularly during the winter, there is very little chance of any of the fluids freezing.

But, if you live in a region where it gets extremely, extremely cold and you let your car sit for weeks then there is the chance of the fluids freezing. You can prevent this by parking it in the garage and adding a source of heat to the garage. Also, you will want to start it once or twice each day.

Extreme weather can cause issues with the paint

The heat can cause the paint to become damaged and dull much faster. Wet weather can cause rusting to happen to the body of your car. Hail can lead to dents and broken windows. No matter what type of extreme weather you live in, you will want to make sure you do everything that you can to protect your paint. Try to park in your garage at home or under your carport. When you are out taking care of errands or doing other things that would leave your car out in the elements you should try to park under a tree or in an underground parking section.

Extreme weather can do damage to the electrical system

Your electrical system will also be at risk in extreme hots and colds. The hot weather can lead to melting and the cold weather can lead to brittleness which can cause breakage in wires and other components. Air conditioned or heated garages may be well worth it in weather conditions that can cause these issues.

No matter where you live you want to make sure you take care of any potential problems. If you notice that your check engine light is on then you want to get your car in to the shop so they can see what's wrong. Ignoring this light can lead to bigger problems, so the sooner you get the car in the better off you will be.
